The CV / Resume template file comes with 5 colour variants but if you would like to add your own colours, it’s relatively simple. The resume template is a two-page template. The first page contains a section for your cover letter / introduction followed by a “personal information section”. The second page contains sections for “Recent Work Experience”, “Education” and “Work References”. The side bar contains an “About” text block, “Skills” section, “Hobbies” section and a “Career Highlights” text block. You can read through this tutorial or watch the video below.
Click on the circle shape at the top of the document. Then click on the top menu item “Shape Format” then click “Shape fill” then click “Picture”. A window will open where you will be able to select your image (on newer versions of PowerPoint, a dialog box may open prompting you to select a location for your image which could be on your file system or from the web).
After selecting your profile picture, you may find that your profile has been resized to fit the shape. Depending on the dimensions of your profile picture, PowerPoint may automatically decrease the width or height disproportionately. The next step shows you how to fix this. If your profile picture looks fine, you may skip the rest of this step.
To adjust the dimensions of your image, click the shape containing your profile image then click “Picture Format” on the top menu, then click crop.
Now that you have enabled cropping, hover over the image handles on either the left/right or top/bottom handles until your cursor changes from an arrow to this <—->. And then drag the handle until you achieve the desired width or height. Your image dimensions should be proportionate.
This step is relatively easy. The document comprises of text boxes with sample text that can be changed to suit your needs. To edit text on your CV / Resume template, simply click over the text box you wish to edit and change the text.
The Skills section of the CV / Resume template is made up of two rectangle shapes. The text next to each shape can be easily edited by clicking on it. To change the skills bar, zoom into the skills section as much as you can and then simply click on the inner rectangle. The handles will now be visible. Then click and hold the handle and drag to your desired width.
Newer versions of PowerPoint allow you to insert icons from within the program. Just click on the “Insert” menu item on the top bar, then click on “Icons”. A dialog box will open allowing you to choose from a variety of options. If you have an old version of PowerPoint, simply download icons from the web. Make sure they are copyright free.
The CV / Resume template is made up of customisable shapes. To change the colour of any shape or line simply click on the shape, then click on the “Shape Format” menu item on the top bar, then click on “Shape Fill” then click on your desired colour.
That should be all you need to get your CV / Resume ready. We hope you have found this tutorial helpful and we wish you the best of luck in your job search.
